Lateral confinement in subgrade soil under vertical loads
Experimental study reported was designed to define and evaluate role of lateral confinement in supporting capacity of subgrade under vertical loads; method employed consists in studying influence of lateral confinement on modulus of deformation of three soil types under conditions of modified AASHO compaction; undrained triaxial tests were carried out; values of lateral fluid pressure which simulate lateral stresses developing in field are applied in triaxial cell; values of lateral pressures were determined by experimental procedure suggested.
