Model study on arching above buried structures
Model was based on various experimental parameters, permitted analysis of behavior of soil-structure system and provided design criteria for buried structures; owing to relations between structure and soil rigidities, stress trajectories arise in soil in shape of arch that transmits forces from above structure to arch abutments; it is assumed that behavior of structural arch is governed by soil characteristic and by support conditions along arch and its abutments; experimental study was carried out in glass walled container, filled with sand.
