Analytical description of behavior of granular media
Beginning from thermodynamic basis and considering only isothermal processes, series of physical assumptions is employed to increasingly delimit possible directions of plastic strain increment vector; results of analysis indicate that on certain portions of loading surface normality should hold while on remainder, envelopes or fans are possible; several alternative restrictions provide unique stress-strain relation at every point on loading surface.
