Cracking in cement-treated bases and means for minimizing it
Causes and control of cracking of pavements, with specific reference to cement-treated bases; analytical expressions for both crack spacing and crack width were derived; crack spacing is influenced by tensile strength, coefficient of sliding friction and specific weight of material; crack width is also influenced by modulus of elasticity in tension; to reduce shrinkage, lime and fly ash proved to be best, and sulfates in appropriate concentrations, particularly those of magnesium and sodium, appear to be effective.
