Laboratory freeze-thaw tests of portland cement-treated granular bases
Study to compare Iowa freeze-thaw test procedure and results with ASTM freeze-thaw test; in Iowa test, sample is undisturbed between cycles and is frozen from top down with water continually available at base of specimen; specimen deterioration is determined by length changes and unconfined compressive strength after freeze-thaw cycles; comparison of Proctor and vibrated compaction specimens was made for both freeze-thaw tests; vibratory compaction method yields more consistent laboratory densities, and produces less particle degradation; methods of compaction of freeze-thaw test specimens.
