Hydraulic winches on new suez canal dredger
Khofo, new nonpropelled suction dredger built by Simons-Lobnitz Ltd for Egyptian Government is fitted with 2 hydraulically operated Beckett and Anderson Gearmatic winches, which will increase speed and efficiency of vessel's deepening and maintenance operations along Suez Canal; winches control 2 main anchor booms aft which, when working, swing outboard by gravity 120° from fore-aft center, and will pull 6500 lb at mean speed of 45 fpm; length of dredge is 250 ft and breadth 50 ft; vessel is for dredging sand and rock from canal bed, rock being cut by specially developed steel alloy cutter driven by 1500 hp motor.
