Slipforms accelerate erection of concrete towers
Slip-forming of service towers for IBM office building in downtown Philadelphia speeded construction until towers were 40 ft short of their final 240 ft height; conventional forms were used for last 40 ft, after formwork fire started by propane salamanders, installed to combat cold, destroyed slipforms; details are given of making and using forms, meeting tight tolerances, and concreting.
