Greatest concrete arch span in world
Interesting construction techniques were employed on Gladesville Bridge which spans Paramatta River, near Sydney Harbor, Australia; design is based on 1000 ft arch design in reinforced and prestressed concrete; 50-ton precast units were used to produce 4 box section ribs located side by side; ribs are joined transversely by reinforced post-tensioned concrete diaphragms; erection of box ribs was carried out one rib at a time and supported on falsework located on tubular steel piles; other bridges in area are briefly described.
