Bentonite-methylamine complexes
Suspensions containing 3% sodium bentonite (Wyoming) and each of 4 methylamine hydrochlorides were prepared so that latter were present in amounts equal to 25, 50, 75, 100, 125, 200, 400, 600, 800, and 1000% of exchange capacity of clay; flocculated clay was removed by decantation, and oscillating-heating X-ray diffraction (Cu Kα) pattern was made of first-order diffraction maximum; with these patterns, thermal stability, mixed layering, and multilayering of amine-bentonite complex were followed.
