542-car parking garage in Salt Lake City was designed so that columns could span 20 ft from ground level to first floor with no walls; upper floors are also without walls, since columns are strong enough to resist horizontal forces; 40 precast and prestressed columns 52 ft high were braced with timber and steel rod frames; concrete was pumped into place; floor slab forms are reused for each of five floors; top slab was cast first and forms winched down.
