Canas River bridge in Cuba was first hollow box to utilize advantages of galvanized steel strands; bridge of deck-girder construction, with top of cells forming roadway, has three continuous spans -- 249 ft center span and two 50-ft anchor arms; 56 1-in diam galvanized strands placed inside each box, were tensioned initially to 140,000 psi and anchored at ends of girder.
