Unusual conical design of tank is described; tank is stressed by roof load along its top perimeter, by its own weight and by water pressure; it resists these forces by accumulating direct thrust in inclined walls and by hoop tension varying with level; vertical elements of load, in being turned into inclined thrust down meridians of cone, induce additional hoop tensions which do not occur in cylindrical tank.
