Rock trap experience in unlined tunnels
Where unlined tunnels are part of hydraulic power conduit, properly designed rock traps are required to collect transported material and prevent excessive abrasion of turbine components; performance of trap system for Jaybird Development during initial 2 yr of operation is examined, results of hydraulic model testing program are presented, and consequent modifications of Jaybird trap system are outlined; also presented is new concept for design of rock traps.
