Inserting two 54-inch valves in concrete water main under pressure
Installation of valves in 54 in.-water main necessitated by relocation of pipe line as result of construction of interchange of highways I-84 and I-91 in Hartford, Conn; main is reinforced concrete cylinder pipe, not prestressed, with 5 1/2 in. wall thickness; in section relocated, pipe was reinforced with 12-gage steel cylinder and 9/16 in.-diam circumferential steel rods; operating pressure at this point was 65 psi.
