Determination of pore characteristics, mineralogy, texture, and structure for cherts and shales from 9 Indiana glacial gravel deposits by means of microscopic petrography, X-ray diffraction, and common specific gravity and absorption techniques; contrary to existing specifications on cherts and shales, no difference was noted in freeze-thaw durabilities of various chert samples; none of shales caused deep seated failure of concrete.
