New technique for storing liquefied natural gas in covered hole in ground at ultralow temperatures of -258 F has been introduced in test demonstration at Lake Charles, La; technique involves freezing ground surrounding area to be excavated, excavating hole, and installing vapor tight sealed aluminum roof over this hole before filling; soil surrounding excavated area was first frozen by circulating refrigerant through pipes.
