Interpretation of "Sand Equivalent" test
Physical interpretation of Sand Equivalent experiment of Francis H. Hveem for establishing its correlation with current tests adopted by Laboratory of Public Highways Administration of Province of Buenos Aires is dealt with; test technique is based on relation between volume of sand settled after dispersion of soil (in graduated cylinder) and total volume of soil tested; interpretation presented was that of comparing and relating volumetrically granular and cohesive fractions of soils, as they are separated out through sedimentation in Sand Equivalent test, with moisture content and density of layers making up structure of pavement; Sand Equivalent values were established for aggregates used in asphaltic mixtures.
