Streets of width less than 20 m have one sewer collecting water draining from street and neighboring buildings; streets wider than 20 m have one sewer under each sidewalk; all structures are brick built and can be readily inspected; they form network over 2000 km long; cleaning is done by specialized personnel (810 including staff) working in shifts, and using special equipment manufactured in sewer service workshops; several hundred sites are opened each year to carry out maintenance or effect necessary local modifications.
