Measurements of axle-loads of moving vehicles on trunk roads
Full-scale pavement design experiments were made by British Road Research Laboratory to determine effect of particular traffic intensities on various pavements and subsoils; modern equipment developed and results obtained at five sites on trunk roads are described; improved installation featured three self-contained weighbridge units, each 2×2 ft, fabricated from light alloy castings; weighbridge load cells were instrumented with electrical resistance strain gages whose signals moved spot of light from mirror galvanometer across row of ten small photoelectric cells corresponding to predetermined load groups.
