Emulsion stabilized subbase new `northway' feature
Sand-gravel aggregate stabilized with anionic emulsion was specified for subbase along 15-mi segment of I-87 in upstate New York; stabilization represented 97,000 cu yd of mix, which was produced and placed along three contract sections; pavement system designed for this region of severe climate comprised 12 in. of gravel subbase then 11 1/2 in. of asphaltic layers; layers consist of 6 in. of emulsified asphalt stabilized subbase; mixture consisted of pit-run glacial sand-gravel, as found in single centrally located deposit.
