Low-cost maintenance-free structural steel for highway applications
Use of unpainted high-strength low-alloy steel containing certain alloying elements to improve atmospheric corrosion resistance and to reduce amount of light-reflective materials employed in highway structures; superior mechanical properties and enhanced resistance to atmospheric corrosion of COR-TEN steels in various environments are described; examples are given illustrating current use of this steel in transmission towers, large buildings, light standards, and bridges.
