Methods and instruments -- St. Lawrence river survey
Types of surveys made, and methods and instruments used to determine exact alignment of river channel which would provide safe waterway at least cost; within United States section this entailed hydrographic survey of approximately 95 mi of river; this reach of river varied in width between 1/4 and 4 mi with depths as great as 200 ft, yet in some areas, channel had to be cut through islands of solid rock, generally granite; velocities ranged from 3 to 5 fps.
