Investigation of sound isolation of concrete slab floors
Studios located in basement of London broadcasting station forms box which is independent of main structure; it consists of prestressed concrete floor slabs supported by rubber mats resting on structural floor, with 4 in. of concrete cast on top; inner walls are mounted directly on slabs and carry ceiling; object of study was to check efficiency of rubber mountings, to confirm that deterioration in overall isolation of system is due to resonance effects in slabs, and to examine methods of damping these resonances.
