Rheology of cement pastes and fresh mortars
Study of behavior of neat cement pastes and fresh cement mortars under shear in rotational viscometer designed for this purpose, is described; it is shown that considerable structural breakdown occurs in cement paste under shearing action; comparison between results obtained from viscometer and those associated with compaction of concrete under vibration shows that breakdown under shear takes place during vibration of concrete; it is also shown that rate of energy input to paste is not constant, and effect of this on Vebe test is discussed; method of measuring workability of cement pastes and mortars.
