Sewers lined with high strength pipe for longer life
30 mi of Pittsburgh's intercepting sewer tunnels are being lined with reinforced pressure pipe precast with 7000 psi concrete; space in tunnel around piping back-filled with 3000 psi concrete; aim is 100 yr design life; tunnel driven through rock and some soft material, and 33 mi. in open-cut trench; tests for infiltration, absorption, density and strength; placing of 24 to 126 in. diam pipe sections.
