Sand dredged from ocean floor 32 mi away is filling in 15-acre boat basin at La Guardia Airport in New York City; self-loading hopper dredge picks up sand and carries it 30 mi to pumping station at end of pipeline; another boosts pressure in line to send sand and sea water mixture 2 mi to fill area; mixture is 15% sand, 85% water; pressure in line is 145 psi; 15 ft fill was topped with 12 ft temporary overburden to help settlement.
