Settlement of linearly loaded rectangular area
Theoretical determination of settlement of linearly-loaded rectangular area at surface of semi-infinite mass of elastic, isotropic, homogeneous soil is presented; linear stress distribution is assumed in design of foundations subject to eccentric and inclined load in case of dams, buildings, and retaining walls; settlement coefficients are calculated for several points of loaded area by integration of J.Boussinesq and V.Cerruti formulas for settlement due to single, normal or tangential load.
