Fire protection for oxygen-enriched-atmosphere applications
Effects of oxygen-enriched atmospheres on fire initiation, propagation, and extinguishment are reviewed and guidelines for effective fire protection are offered; effective fire protection in oxygen-enriched atmospheres is shown to be achievable by -- eliminating sources of ignition, minimizing combustibles and completely excluding flammable liquids and gases, using fire walls and other enclosures to isolate high-risk-fire zones, and using fixed fire-extinguishing system that incorporates automatic initiation by flame and smoke detectors as well as manual initiation and provides rapid discharge of sufficient quantity of agent.
