Suction dredge built by Simons-Lobnitz for South African Railways and Harbours is equipped with forward facing hole digger suction pipe mounted in center well and, in addition, self-housing trailing suction pipe on port side for dredging within harbor when weather conditions prevent operations on sandtrap on outside of breakwaters; length oa 364 ft, breadth molded 59 ft, depth molded 26 ft, maximum draft 19 ft 6 in., hopper capacity 3700 cu yd, maximum dredging depth 70 ft, service speed (80% power) 10.6 knots; power plant uses constant current series loop principle for propulsion motors, hoist ram hydraulic pump, diluting pump and dredge pump motors.
