Behavior of experimental arch dam, abutment of which has undergone large displacements
Idbar experimental arch dam, constructed to store floods, is founded on compressible soil; storage level is under no restraint either economical or of any other sort so that this dam is most adequate for experimental purposes; storage was filled before abutments were prepared to withstand water load; infiltrations have provoked underground erosion and some tunneling, which caused large deformations in right abutment rock; dam resisted in spite of displacements up to 119 mm at crest of abutments.
