Some turbulence measurements in open-channel flow
Open-channel flow measurements using hot-film anemometry techniques showed that relative turbulent intensity of vertical velocity component was about 60% of longitudinal, spectral energy distribution was not significantly affected by type of flow, most turbulent energy is contained in frequencies less than 5 Hz, macroscale of turbulence was on same order as depth, and ratio of microscale to depth ranged from 0.1 to 0.2; measurements were used to verify longitudinal direction momentum terms and to determine magnitude of production, diffusion, and dissipation terms in energy equation.
