Relationship between apparent variation in compressive strength of concrete cubes and inaccuracies found in calibration of compression testing machines
Results of number of comparative tests on apparent compressive strength of concrete cubes when tested by different laboratories are presented; because of certain large discrepancies in these tests and other related reasons, it was decided to verify load scales on number of compression testing machines in use in building industry; device chosen was grade one instrument which was insensitive to application of load through non-plane surfaces; results indicate that calibration of testing machines is necessary within existing specifications.
