Behavior of splices in beam-column connections
Results of 10 tests on lapped splices in beam-column connections are analyzed; three main variables were splice length, splice location, and stirrup spacing over splice length; load-deflection curves are examined and compared with similar unspliced specimen; anchorage bond stresses are computed and compared with provision of ACI 318-63; results indicated that ductility increased with length of splice and with closer spacing of stirrups over splice length; ultimate anchorage bond stresses were on average 28% higher than code values for splices.
