Engineering aspects of arts and library building, victoria university of wellington
Features of design and construction are described; basic structural system is 10-story building with stiff columns and relatively flexible prestressed anisotropic ribbed flat plate floors; two-way prestressing of concrete floor system was adopted to give wide column spacings, and reduce construction depth; building is designed for base shear of 0.075 g under seismic loads; by subdivision of each two-way prestressed flat plate into four elements, maximum shrinkage, creep and shortening is limited to that occurring over half span length between main columns; deflections in prestressed floor units were controlled with draped tendons; shear design of various structural members are described.
