Review of concrete characteristics; micro, macro, and total pore distribution as dependent on water-cement ratio, aggregate quality and vibration of mix is supported by tabulated data and graphs; amount of macro pores is shown to depend on embedded aggregate surfaces, and micro pores on cement-lime ratio; hydrophobic impregnation of pore walls may give satisfactory impermeability, where water pressure is low, with good coating still considered safest approach.
