Optimum design of eccentrically loaded columns
Interaction method of reducing concentric column theories, curves, or test data to account for eccentricity of loading is used as basis for determining optimum proportions and sizes for columns having eccentrically applied loading or initial crookedness; inelastic effects and local buckling are included; optimization method, based on structural index, provides simple and efficient design procedure; extensions of method to include arbitrary "nonoptimum" dimensional limits are described; practical design examples are included; comparisons of interaction method with other theories of eccentric column behavior are made.
