Attempt to resolve problem concerning adequacy of definition of fire severity in terms of area under time-temperature curve, particularly where temperature levels may differ significantly; experiments in which materials are subjected to varied exposure levels; measurements of temperature distribution within exposed materials are used to evaluate appropriateness of area equivalence concept.
