Bridge construction at Penrith
Trapezoidal section concrete girders slid into position so that road construction can take place beneath; abutments and piers were constructed under running conditions by sheet pile wall method; bridge girder is hollow post-stressed reinforced concrete box beam of trapezoidal cross-section, with central longitudinal stiffening member; advantages of sliding over rolling method are that greater bearing pressures can be permitted on sliding surfaces; sections of three bridges are shown.
