Stability of proposed breakwater, Burns Waterway Harbor, Indiana
Six series of tests were conducted on 1 to 35-scale models of proposed rubbel-mound breakwater; five test series were conducted to develop stable designs for rubble-mound type breakwaters; sixth series of tests was concerned with determination of experimental shape coefficient, voids, and thickness of cover layer; stable design using armor layer consisting of two layers of random-placed limestone blocks was developed for trunk section of proposed rubble-mound breakwater based on design-wave height of 13 ft; test data for better plans indicated that, for selected prototype design wave, height of maximum transmitted wave would not be greater than about 3 ft.
