Mobile breakwater concept based on perforated front wall and solid back wall is presented; principles of energy dissipation by system is discussed as well as potential role of such device within framework of practical application; model test results, comparing perforated breakwater's response to waves with that of caisson-type breakwater; it is shown that perforated breakwater experiences less force on structure when it is fixed to bottom and less force on mooring lines when afloat than caisson-type; however, perforated breakwater is not more effective in reducing waves, for conditions tested; visual observations show that scouring is prevalent when caisson-type is fixed to bottom; there is no evidence of scouring with perforated breakwater.
