Construction of Nagoya storm-tide-preventing breakwater
Features of construction of 8250-m breakwater; greater half of this breakwater was built on extremely unstable foundation, nature of ground being of soft clay stratum with thickness of 10 to 30 m; sand-drain method was adopted for improving ground on which caissons were laid, forming composite type section; close work control was maintained constantly by applying boring, observation on sinking, pore water pressure and other conditions to ascertain whether sinking by consolidation took place according to calculations; breakwater project was completed in period of 2 yr and 8 mo at cost of 30 million dollars.
