Use of laboratory dynamic triaxial tests to develop criteria for design of concrete stems for field cratering tests
Field cratering experiments in hard, dry rock have utilized nitromethane which is emplaced through 1-m-diam hole drilled to emplacement depth; use of dynamic triaxial tests to determine dynamic shear strength of rock for use in stem design; stem with cone-shaped, reinforced concrete key approximately 2 m high by 2 m in diam was designed and utilized; study is connected with possible utilization of nuclear energy in excavations.
