Fluid mechanics of extracorporeal circulation
Oxygenation of blood flowing in small tubes is studied using mathematical model and results are checked experimentally; quantitative information derived from model makes it possible to selectively design capillary tube oxygenator; quantitative relationship between blood trauma and hydrodynamic stresses has not been delineated; cavitation, however, appears to be major cause of hemolysis.
