Deformation of continuous prestressed concrete beams and its effect on ultimate load
Twenty tests of continuous prestressed beams of two and three spans were made to investigate distribution of curvature over length of each beam in relation to distribution of moment and ultimate load; integrated curvature measurements were used to study accuracy of three methods of analysis proposed in report on ultimate load design of concrete structures; most hyperelastic curvature at high loads occurred over short lengths and simple and reasonably accurate calculation of ultimate load could be made by considering deformation to be represented by rotation of hinges formed in beam, moments being related to compatible rotation angles at these hinges.
