Calculations and speculations about hydraulic theory of hearing
Hydraulic theory of hearing considers cochlea as rather simple hydraulic engine; according to this theory, von Bekesy's observations are valid only for sound pressures far above threshold of feeling, but not for normal hearing range; analysis of sound by basilar membrane is completely respected, and it is assumed that this analysis must be done by nerve mechanism; behavior of cochlea which is related directly to momentary values of sound pressure is mathematically analyzed, and results are discussed.
