Elastic wave velocities in granular soils
Laboratory tests, using resonant column method to evaluate longitudinal and shear wave velocities in specimens of Ottawa sand, crushed quartz sand, and crushed quartz silt; variables considered were confining pressure, and moisture content, void ratio, and grain characteristics of materials; wave velocities for sands varied with approximately 1/4 power of confining pressure; wave velocities in quartz silts were found to be greatly dependent on time.
