Shear measurement technique for rough surfaces
Preston's technique of using pitot tube that touches boundary in order to measure local shear is extended to rough surfaces; analysis, assuming logarithmic velocity distribution, provides estimate of relationship between dynamic-pressure reading and intensity of shear; experiments with sandpaper-roughened surfaces confirm general nature of analytical relationship and provide correction factors that could be used for surfaces of similar texture.
