Design of tile drainage for falling water tables
Equation is derived for spacing of drains in terms of rate of water-table drop, depth of impervious layer below drains, etc; solution is based on Dupuit-Forchheimer assumptions and treats depth of water-bearing stratum as variable, so that it is not restricted to cases in which water-table fluctuation is small percentage of aquifer thickness; use of graphical connection adapted from tabulation of "equivalent depths" by Hooghoudt is proposed; solution is in terms of incomplete β function which can either be evaluated numerically or determined within 3% from approximate equation; comparison with widely used solution by Glover is made.
