Use of vertical grout curtain under core of dam or closely spaced series of relief wells on downstream side of dam to control seepage through sand beds under aprons of dams; solutions were investigated for Aswan High Dam on Nile River in Egypt by means of conformal mapping and complex function theory; efficiency of grout curtain in reducing exit gradients demonstrates safety of dam.
