Model to simulate response of concrete to multi-axial loading
Development of model which is assumed to be representative of structure of cement paste and which consists of nondeforming spheres, cubically arranged, and interconnected by elastic struts, provides theoretical explanation of some of phenomena observed in tests of concrete under different stress conditions; theory was extended to case of confined compression to illustrate effect of different types of confinement; series of tests conducted on 60 square, axially-loaded columns confined by rectangular ties reported.
